The Secret to Successful Twitter Marketing

August 17th, 2010 No comments

The world is all abuzz about Twitter. Everybody from the mainstream media to celebrities to your Great Aunt Millie has at least heard of Twitter. Twitter has been used for everything from a critical communications link to the outside world during the Iranian Elections to Ashton Kutcher sharing a picture of Demi Moore in her underwear. The opportunities presented by this captive audience and its almost fanatical fan base should have you drooling!

Guess what? You are not the only one with that idea and thousands of would be Twitter marketers are trying to grab their share of the gold rush before the claim pinches out. Most will fail. The ‘average’ Twitter user is becoming jaded when it comes to Internet Marketing and thus even choosier on who they follow. Let’s ensure your next Twitter campaign is a successful campaign. In this article I will provide you with the secret to successful Twitter marketing in 2009.

Twitter’s enormous popularity, like all social media, is built on implicit trust. As an example of that implicit trust mechanism, Twitter only allows you to DM (Twitter shorthand for direct message) those that follow you. The (truly) brilliant minds at Twitter assumed that if a person trusts you enough to follow you, that they trust you enough to accept a direct message.

The trust mechanism built into Twitter ensures that the only successful method of marketing on Twitter requires followers.  Surely you’ve heard from the Twitter gurus who recommend that you go out and buy an expensive tool, usually from their affiliate link, and mass follow complete strangers, hoping they follow you back and Twitter doesn’t ban your account?   So how does my method differ?  Notice that I said marketing on Twitter requires followers.  Those followers don’t necessarily need to be YOUR FOLLOWERS.  Don’t get me wrong, having your own legion of loyal followers is definitely an asset, but many Twitter marketers do not have that luxury when they are first beginning to utilize the Twitter system for marketing.

The true secret to utilizing Twitter as a marketing tool is to embrace the viral nature of the Twitter itself. You might only have 100 followers, but if each of those followers has 100 followers, now you have the basis of a campaign. One problem remains however, those followers still don’t have any reason to trust you. You need to find a way of reaching the followers of your followers (or website and / or blog visitors). You need a bridge to get over the trust chasm that divides you from the hordes of faithful minions that follow your followers.

The best Twitter strategy to build that bridge and complete the chain of trust is to get your website visitors to retweet (RT in Twitter shorthand) your message to their followers. For example, provide a form on your website or blog that encourages your visitors to tweet your message. This is where your creativity needs to come into play. Craft a compelling Tweet with a subtle, but effective, call to action and then promise your visitor (and deliver) a free report or discount coupon after they complete the act of retweeting your message. For example, a very popular method currently is to conduct Twitter contests. In exchange for an entry into your contest, your website visitor agrees to retweet your message. One company just completed a contest in which they gave away one Macbook a day for ten days. During the span of the contest, this company’s retweets trended higher than Michael Jackson’s death!

Even the most experienced Internet Marketers forget this one simple concept – viral marketing is successful marketing!  Your website or blog visitors trust you. The Twitter followers of your visitor trust them. By encouraging your visitors to retweet your message to their followers, there is now an implied trust in you and your message; the trust chasm has been bridged!

Marketing with Twitter virally also had an added benefit. If the follower of your visitor agrees with your message, they will happily follow you! Thus not only are you fully exploiting the very viral nature of Twitter, but you are also building up your ever important followers list, readily available for future efforts!

Do Not Self Promote on Twitter! Promoting your own message is the easiest way to lose followers and potentially get clobbered by the dreaded Twitter ban hammer. Don’t let others lead you to believe that Twitter itself is dead.  Twitter profits are still there for the taking, however now is the time to get creative and rethink your Twitter marketing strategy to fully exploit the very viral nature of the Twitter that makes the service so popular to begin with!

Twitter Marketing Software – The Best Way to Promote Yourself on Twitter – Usage Guide

August 16th, 2010 No comments

For a few days now, we have had some interest in our opinions on how to appropriately use Twitter marketing software such as Tweet Adder and Tweet Whistle, so we decided we’d offer our views with you here. We’ve had problems as well as many, many successes and it all makes for high-quality suggestions and good advice.

So here are our best Twitter marketing tips, we’ve put on screen for you…

Some things to consider before starting; if you’re employing Tweet Adder, automate it to unfollow users who have not followed you in return after a few days. Let’s be honest, if the member are not regular to Twitter then you wouldn’t want them to be a follower and if they are they’ll most likely have overlooked your follow request and 3 days is more than enough of a period for them to reciprocate. In addition before you begin to follow users make sure you have at least 5 normal and intriguing messages on your account. Would you follow someone back who has no posts at all or a person with a considerable amount of promotional material on their profile?

If your Twitter page is brand new and you’ve just started using it, using your Twitter marketing tools, follow up to 50 members per day for the first few weeks or so. Don’t purely add 500 members to your list for the reason that you will be banned from Twitter. This possibly will sound a little sluggish however to have a lucrative Twitter marketing promotion you’ll need to have some patience. As you are getting users onto your list unfollow the users who have not followed you in return using the settings that you’ve assigned in Tweet Adder. This’ll keep your ratio looking more believable to your potential brand new members.

After a couple of weeks has gone by, tot up your following to around one hundred a day, ensuring to follow the tips that we have mentioned before. Then go of your own accord into it effortlessly and add users of your own accord (obviously, within reason).

Keep in mind to add your own set of laws to the listing as you gather familiarity as each Twitter experience is distinctive. And make sure that your content is always fresh as well as advertising to the members…we can offer all the suggestions in the world but the most focal element is down to you; being yourself.

However we would not have so many successful Twitter marketing campaigns if it wasn’t for software like Tweet Adder which as suggested above above, if used correctly, is completely safe. If you want to read more about the options when it comes to Twitter marketing software simply click the link. We have lots of further advice, reviews of each piece of software and video reviews to help you decide. We like to make Twitter marketing as easy as possible for all!

Use Twitter to Improve Your Business

August 16th, 2010 No comments

The internet abounds in articles, e-books and white pages written on the efficacy of Twitter in marketing your business. In other words, there is a lot of content that screams out the fact that you can improve your site with the help of this social networking site but if you are a social networking virgin you are probably wondering how you can make this happen?

One of the primary question that a naysayer may have about Twitter is what can possibly be accomplished in 140 characters, well h is the beauty of Twitter. Remember the one phrase that can best describe the internet is information overload; there is some useful stuff and loads of garbage and when surrounded by so much nonsensical information something short and to the point is much appreciated; just like Twitter which forces you to cut down your conversation to a bare minimum so what you get in essence is a very powerful and effective, to the point messages which can mean a lot when used in a business setting. So let’s talk about how you can tweets to market your business:

Marketing involves placing your products and services in front of the crowd in such a way that the will either buy from you today or think about you the next time they need a similar product; whatever your marketing strategy, Twitter makes it instantaneous. This is one of the reasons why Twitter has gained a lot of attention as the social marketing site of choice for sending urgent and pertinent messages about killer sales, promotional offers and discounts. Many big companies like Dell use Twitter to tell their customers about limited time offers that can help them save a lot on the company’s products. And, if Dell can harness the power of Twitter to their benefit, so can you.

It is possible to get a few hundred or even a few thousand followers on Twitter and even if you an et half of them interested in your niche that can equate to a sizeable amount of business. Twitter is the perfect tool to be used to build brand awareness, customer relationships and communicate with potential consumers.

The best part about Twitter is that your cost is minimal yet you can blast a message about a special discount offer to thousands of customers at the speed of light almost instantly. Any good marketer knows the importance of speed in getting your message across to your customers. Another advantage is the fact that unlike television and newspaper advertisements which are not only expensive but are blasted across to everybody whether they are interested in your products or not; with Twitter you can be sure that the people who are following you are indeed interested in what you are selling and hence there is a very good possibility that if your promotional efforts are right they may buy from you.

Using Twitter for Product development:

Twitter can be used to get an idea about the pulse of the market; what your customers are expecting from your products and what they need. Ordinarily, a company would have to spend thousand and sometimes even millions to determine this very information by conducting surveys into target markets but with Twitter this can be done in a jiffy. A lot of companies will start a contest on Twitter where the people who are following the company’s account are supposed to give their suggestions for new products that the company intends to launch and the person with the most unique and useful suggestion wins a prize. Notice, how you will be able to get a lot of feedback about what people want in your product through such a contest.

Twitter from Brand Management:

Then there are others who frequently host contests related to the niche of their website or business; such as a popular movie rental business hosts a contest where followers are supposed to answer movie related questions and the first correct answer gets a free DVD.

How to Use Twitter For Marketing – The Basics

August 16th, 2010 No comments

Before you start using Twitter ask your self WHY am I using this tool? WHO am I looking to connect with? WHEN is the best time (of year, month, week, day) to connect with them? WHERE will I find them? HOW will I create a solid connection? You must have a clear game plan or you may find yourself spending plenty of precious time using Twitter but seeing few results. Remember you are using Twitter for marketing and not just as a time waster.

Think keywords in selecting your Twitter username. Keep it easy to remember and spell. Your real name is almost always best keywords from your niche, product, business, or category may also be a good fit. Also think keywords in your short bio. People will often find others on Twitter by searching keywords in Twitter Search. For your image a picture of you will always work best because most people remember faces.

When your account is set up be sure to start tweeting (status updating) right away. Don’t be picky. Just start sharing. It’s important that you have some updates on your Twitter page before others see it. If your account is discovered by a Twitter user and nothing is there for them to read they may choose to skip over you. They may even think you are an automated spam-bot. Tweet links to your videos, squidoo lenses, articles, blogposts, audios, or anything else interesting to your target market.

In the beginning of your Twitter experience click “find people” and via Gmail, Yahoo, or AOL you can find friends who already use Twitter. Find and follow the leaders in your niche by perusing the many Twitter user directories. Be prepared to spend time observing these leaders and the various social orders within the user base. These observations should lead you to more of those in key leadership positions within your niche. Pay particular attention to these trendsetters/influencers. Befriend as many of your competitors as possible, but don’t leave out the small guy as they tend to be quicker to repost your messages. These relationships should be nurtured over time and a few may well lead to some kind of joint leverage in the future.

Once you have a budding following be sure to post content regularly. Since you can post to Twitter via cell phone, instant messaging, Facebook, Squidoo, MySpace, Blogger, TypePad, and WordPress new tweets can happen even when you are doing something else.

Keep your following interested in you by answering their questions and sharing valuable resources and know-how. Over time this will prove critical for your efforts to build know, like, and trust among your followers. A solid relationship with your Twitter readers or followers will lend effectiveness to polls, surveys, or any other kind of crowd-sourcing you may choose to do.

No doubt you have heard of Twitter by now! If you have not tried it you have probably heard it mentioned in passing conversation. Twitter is a new website that allows you to “follow” people to see what they are up to in their day to day lives. People then follow you, and you can share your daily activities, what websites you are viewing and even pictures that you find amusing. But have you heard how to market with Twitter?

After I used Twitter for a while I began to discover how to market with Twitter and haven’t looked back. Using Twitter for marketing is kind of like using a bare bones Facebook with a ton more potential.

1. Get Followers!
Twitter is all about who you are following and who is following you! The more people that you have following you, the more people that you can get your message to. If you can learn to get targeted followers you can market your products to them and get hundreds of people checking out your websites with ever Tweet!

2. Be a Follower
At first, using Twitter to market can be like shouting into a vacant room where all you hear is the echo of your voice. The easiest way to get followers is to follow people that are interested in the same things as you, or people that are in the same line of business as you are. Twitter has various tools to find the people that are interesting to you.

3. The Art of The Tweet.
First cardinal rule of using Twitter to market: don’t spam! Sure you can Tweet your website updates but using Twitter is similar to the etiquette you find in forums. How to Use Twitter to Find the Perfect Customer

August 16th, 2010 No comments

There are a number of ways to utilize Twitter for your business, but there is one technique that will help you find the perfect customer at the perfect time. There are 3 simple steps to this technique, and they are as follows:

Search – When you log onto your Twitter account you should simply go to your home page, scroll down and look on the right side and you will see a search box. You can type in anything in this box including a name, a word, or a phrase. This will bring up all the most recent tweets that included that name, word or phrase. So lets say you sell alarm clocks, you should go to twitter and type in alarm clock and you will likely find a host of people who slept through a meeting at work because their alarm did not go off for whatever reason. What a perfect opportunity to send a direct message to them with a link to your website with great deals on new alarm clocks.

Narrow Down Customers – So back to our alarm clock business. Lets say you typed in alarm clock and a number of tweets came up, but not all of them were great matches for your business. You can narrow your search by using quotations. Simply type “broken alarm clock” in the search bar and now you will have an extremely narrow and relevant list of potential customers. Only people that actually typed in that phrase will appear and you can quickly and easily direct message them.

Timing – The beauty of Twitter is that there is activity 24 hours a day because it is used worldwide. So it is not as easy as just visiting twitter at 8:00 AM your local time to type in alarm clock. You may find that you typically only sell to customers in the United States via your website, if this is the case then you should focus your Twitter searches during the mornings from East Coast to West Coast time zones.

If you follow these 3 easy steps you will most certainly find the perfect customer at the perfect time and it is all free. You certainly don’t need to be spending your time as the owner of the company worrying about this, it would be easy to assign this to one of your entry level employees as a daily activity. This is just one great way to utilize Twitter.com for your small business.

How to Get Targeted Twitter Followers Free and Fast

August 13th, 2010 No comments

Twitter is a great social media website for any Internet Marketer. Gone are the days where you need to capture leads using Opt – In lists. While Opt – In lists are still good for getting targeted leaders there are more fast and very effective ways to build a relationship with your customers and ultimately get them to buy from you.

Here are a few ways I have gotten more highly targeted leads using Twitter. First I add my Twitter address wherever the opportunity arises. If you look at most Forums these days, especially the Internet Marketing targeted forums they include a spot in your profile to add your personal Twitter Address. Offer plenty of good information and share your knowledge on these forums and you will automatically start getting more followers.

I also find that following top Internet Marketers on Twitter will get me followers that are also following these top Internet Marketers. I not only do this but when I follow the top Internet Marketers I will also look through who is following them and follow some of these people as well that look like they may have something to offer. When you do this you are building a list of highly targeted customers. Internet Marketers whether at the top of at the bottom are always looking for new information as the Internet is always changing and new strategies are always coming up.

This not only works for Internet Marketers, you may be selling golf related products online, but Twitter can also work for you. Follow big brand names in Golf and start following their followers as well. Make sure that you have published a new Tweet before you start following that is related to golf. That way when people look through their list to see who is now following them they will see you and then see that you are talking about something golf related. They are more likely to check you out and see what you have to offer.

Be sure to connect all of your blogs and websites to Twitter as well. A simple little “Follow me on Twitter” message somewhere on the page is enough. You would be surprised at the amount of people that will follow you from just this.

I don’t recommend using Mass Follow tools. They are everywhere on the internet at the moment but can easily get you banned from Twitter as well as other social media websites. It is better to steadily build up your list than to add 1,000 people a day. I like to build my Twitter List at 100-200 quality leads a day. If you are getting just 3% to buy something from you that is still 3-6 sales a day. If you are getting $50 per product that could mean up to $300 a day, and that is just through spending 20-30 minutes on Twitter per day.

You also should have other methods to bring in sales. I never like to put all my eggs in the same basket. The Internet is always changing and companies are always changing the rules to make the Internet a better place mostly, but this can ruin your online business if you have everything invested in just one place.

How to Choose a Twitter Name

August 13th, 2010 No comments

Choosing a Twitter name isn’t a simple matter of selecting the first name that pops into mind. In fact, this should be a careful decision. After all, your Twitter screen name tells followers a bit about you and it takes up a fair amount of “tweet real estate” space. In addition, many Twitter users use cell phones with Twitter, making it important to be aware of the effect that some characters in your Twitter name may have on cell phone users.

Twitter uses two terms for Twitter names: name and username. When you sign up for a Twitter account, you’ll enter two names with the username being the one displayed as “@twittername” for communications purposes and used as your Twitter URL such as Twitter.com/twittername.

Choose a Short Twitter Username

Because Twitter limits tweets to just 140 characters, and because your Twitter user name is included in this limitation, it should be as short as possible. For example, the Discovery Channel’s official Twitter username is “Discovery” not “DiscoveryChannel.” Dropping the word channel from the Twitter account name saves seven characters. The same is true of ABCNews.com’s Twitter username. ABCNews.com landed the deliciously short Twitter name of “ABC.”

Avoid Underscores in Twitter Usernames

When signing up for a new Twitter account, it’s impossible to add punctuation marks like periods and dollar signs. It is also impossible to add spaces to your Twitter username. However, one option that is available is the underscore. While it may be tempting to use the underscore to add separation between two words (such as Twitter_Name), avoid the temptation and opt for TwitterName instead. Not only does this save a precious character, it also helps cell phone users who could have trouble finding the underscore symbol on numeric keypads.

Choose a Memorable, Descriptive Twitter Name

If you can get your own name as your Twitter username, great! Doing so can help you build your personal brand. However, if your name is common and no longer available, the next best Twitter username is memorable and descriptive. Remember, you can still use your given name in the Twitter name field. If your given name is unavailable or if you don’t want to use it, opt for a username that describes your passion and what you intend to tweet about such as Bookworm, MathGeek, or MoneyAdvice.

Knowing what you now know, which of the following Twitter usernames would be the best if you intend to tweet advice about motherhood:

* Advice_for_Mothers
* AdviceForMoms
* Tips4Moms

Assuming the Twitter name is available, Tips4Moms meets the criteria of being short, not having underscores in it, and being memorable and descriptive. Keep these points in mind when you choose your own Twitter username and you’ll be off to a fantastic start!

How to Follow Someone on Twitter

August 13th, 2010 No comments

When you follow someone on Twitter, this means you want to subscribe to that person’s tweets. That person’s updates will always show up on your Twitter home page. For example, if you were to follow Pete, you will receive Pete’s tweets on your own home page. Additionally, when following someone, the person you follow will be given permission to send you private tweets. These are called “direct messages”. You can see how many people you are following as well as how many people are following you on your profile page.

When you start tweeting, you should always check out who is following you on your following page. It is only good etiquette that if you follow someone, they should follow you as well. Generally, you should un-follow those people who don’t follow you in return after about three days or so.

So, What is a Follower, anyway?

These are the people who will have your updates show up on their Twitter home page. Those who are following you will also receive your tweets on their phone or application if they have it set up to do that. Basically, you can think of it like this: If you click on follow on someone’s home page, you are now his or her follower.

How do you know you are following someone?

After clicking “Follow” on a person’s profile, you’re automatically following them and that person will show up in your “Following” list. You will notice that the button will change color to a green check mark indicating that you are following that person.

How to determine who is following you

You will get an email from Twitter immediately when someone decides to follow you. You’ll have to set up your email preferences to let Twitter know where to send you follower updates to you. Your followers actually link to your profile page, which is located on the sidebar, and you can always visually determine how many followers you have.

Is there a way I can ask someone to follow me?

Unfortunately, Twitter is a little different than other social sites like Facebook. There isn’t a way do actually ask someone to follow you. Some tweeters use the @reply feature on twitter to ask people to follow them, but this usually doesn’t turn in to a new follower. The best way to gain friends and followers on Twitter is to use it. Follow those who follow you and others should follow you if you are following them. You can reply to tweets from your followers that are interesting to you and people will see that you are actively engaged and your followers will increase over time.

4 Tips to Help You Get More Twitter Followers

August 13th, 2010 No comments

There are numerous social networking sites that can be used by online marketers. One such popular and useful site is Twitter. The main tactics involved in online marketing is bridging good relationship with the customers. This could be easily achieved by using Twitter. Yes, with this tool your marketing process will be very easy and quick. Twitter is a powerful tool that is widely used to market products especially, by affiliate marketers, bloggers and other network marketers.

Even though Twitter is accepted as a powerful social networking site, it works great only when you have numerous followers. Twitter is not worthy to use, if you do not have more followers. There is no limit to the numbers, but you need to gather as much people as possible. Now the question that arises in mind is “what should I do to gather more people behind me”.

1] Start following as many people as possible as soon as you sign up. It is highly believed that in Twitter about 50% of the people you follow are sure to follow you back, if you are tweeting with valuable information. The selection of the people you choose follow should be related to your business or products. Suppose, if your product is to target a housewife, then gather the list of housewives and follow them. Twitter restricts the number of followers to 2000. So, if you follow 2000 people, you are sure to get at least 1000 of them in your hand.
